Today, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Frank Clark have signed a 5 year, $105.5 million deal, this contract was signed, after being traded just yesterday. Frank may be a great addition for their team, but that contract is a little much. Demarcus Lawrence, who just had two back-to-back great seasons, also had a very similar contract. It's very hard to find a great pass rusher, so when a team finds one that is playing at a high level, they pay them the big bucks. Other positions, for example Quarterbacks, receive outrageous contracts, when there's a chance they could disappear not long after. Quarterbacks are also way easier to find, than a pass rusher.
Football is not the only sport that has these type of contracts either, most sports do. Baseball had a few signings over the offseason that turned people's heads, Bryce Harper to the Phillies for 13 years, $330 million, and Manny Machado to the Padres 10 years, $300 million, are only two of the insane baseball contracts. Basketball has a couple for themselves as well. Chris Paul for example signed 4 years, $159 million.
From a viewers stand point these contracts are crazy to all of us, because there's no telling what we would do for that money. These athletes are getting payed to entertain us for the majority of their lives, not to mention put their bodies on the line.
