Hopewell vs Thomas Dale

This Friday the Hopewell Blue Devils played against the Thomas Dale Knights in Hopewell’s homecoming game. The game would be looked at as the game of the week with both teams being highly ranked teams. The defense started the game off really well getting the first points of the game on a holding penalty that resulted in a safety. Defensive ends Keyon Williams and Reggie Ruffin made plays consistently in the back field. The defense in the first half had two turnovers that would be big. The turnovers being a forced fumble by the dynamic duo, and the other being an interception by Zion Hubbard. Hubbard would make a big return on this interception all the way down to the 3 yard line. The offense was on fire early as well, having a bunch of guys involved in the running game. Trey Henderson, Kaiveon Cox, and Robert “Nook” Briggs combined for three first half TDs. In the second half Trey Henderson looked to dominate the opposing team, scoring 3 TDs, and catching an interception on the other side of the ball. Exavier Brown and DJ Powell made plays that would be impactful when the ball was thrown in their direction. On the defensive side of things, they continued the play from the first half. Unfortunately, they would let up for a touchdown on a long pass play. This TD would be Thomas Dale’s only of the game leaving the end result to be 44-7. This is another great win for the Blue Devils over a ranked opponent. Coach Irby after the game had high praise for his team saying “The team executed the game perfectly and prepared well in practice for the big game.” He also hopes to see another win against Petersburg next week.
