Hopewell vs Meadowbrook

This week the Hopewell Blue Devils played against the Meadowbrook Monarchs at home for their Senior Night. The boys would bounce back with a performance that was better than the one they had before. In the first half, both sides of the ball would put on a show. The offense would put up 40 points, including a hat trick of touchdowns from Trey Henderson. The young, and promising star would run for a TD, have a punt returned for a TD, and also throw a TD. Other scorers from this game would be: Kavieon Cox (receiving), Joseph Eliades (one passing, one rushing), and DJ Powell (receiving). Hopewell’s defense would allow 0 points in this half. They would catch an interception (Omari Duncan), and also block a punt (Exavier Brown). When the Devils took the field in the second half, they would keep the same energy as they had before. Dominating on both sides once again, They would score 21 points, and allow 0. One TD from Trey Henderson (rushing), One from Anthony “Tony” Hale, and One TD from Devin Mitchell. The TD from Devin Mitchell seemed to be a special moment, as his teammates were really excited for him getting in the end zone for the first time. Defensively, as I said before, they kept the opposing team to a stand still for the most part. The team would also have a fumble recovery on special teams in that half. Hopewell kept a strong rotation for all of the positions, offensively and defensively, this would keep everyone involved. Players would have a chance to make a name for themselves in the future. I was able to speak with a player after the game that has made a name for himself over the past couple years. When asked about his keys to staying consistent DE Reggie Ruffin says “I focus and lock in on my key assignments I have every week and capitalize on it play by play.” The Junior Student-Athlete also stated that the coaches make adjustments before the game, and even during the game that give him the ability to make a big play, or force a teammate into a play. Hopewell will improve to 8-0 on the season, and will prepare for their matchup next Friday against Prince George.
