Hopewell vs Lord Botetourt

Introduction To The State Championship

In the State Championship game, the Hopewell Blue Devils played against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at Liberty University. Both teams came into this game with an undefeated record of 14-0. Coming into this game, both sides had important wins to get them to this point. Let’s talk about the game.

First Half

Hopewell would score on their first drive of the game. Trey Henderson with the help of his team would score two TDs in the first half, including one on Hopewell’s opening drive. Henderson would set a milestone of 3,000 all-purpose yards on the season. On the defense, they would play as a unit, with everyone making plays. This unit would set the offense up multiple times, two of which were on turnovers. These turnovers would be an interception by Zion Hubbard, and a fumble recovery by Anthony “Tony” Hale. The Blue Devils would also force a fumble on a kickoff. At halftime the score would be Hopewell leading Lord Botetourt 14-0.

Second Half

Hopewell would start where they left off in the first half. After a big run by Robert “Nook” Briggs, Trey Henderson would get into the end zone on a screen pass. With the defense making big plays again, Trey Henderson would score his last touchdown of the game. This would also be the last offensive touchdown. Unfortunately, Joseph Eliades would let up for the only Lord Botetourt score of the game on an interception for a touchdown. Hopewell would fire back with two more turnovers of their own. One of those would go for a score on a fumble recovery by Kaiveon Cox. The other would be an interception by Jarin Goode. Following the interception, the offense would drain the clock. Hopewell went on to win this game 35-7.

Conclusion Of The Season

The Hopewell Blue Devils Football team had a long, and hard journey in order to get to the State Championship game. Hopewell may have been 15-0 on the season, but these guys worked to get to where they were. The coaches felt like they could rely on any one player to get the job done at any time. Many players made key plays throughout the season to get to this point. Key players in this game were, but not limited to Trey Henderson, Keyon Williams, Kaiveon Cox, Robert Briggs, and Khalil Murdock. Although all the players played great, these five players have made plays when they’ve had their chance. I would like to congratulate the Blue Devils Football team on their second State title in three years. Looking forward to next season, they may lose a few players, but I believe they will still be in great shape. Go Blue Devils!
