Cowboys vs Bears: The Continuance Of The Cowboys Problems

On Thursday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys played against the Chicago Bears. The Cowboys came into this game fresh off of two disappointing losses. In this game the ‘Boys continued with the problems they had in the last two games. I would like to go over some of the problems I have noticed over the past three to four weeks.

Lack Of Execution

The players that we have sent out onto the field week in and week out seem like they do not want to execute the job they are entitled to. Underthrown balls, poor blocking adjustments, and missed tackles are just part of the execution problem. Many believe that the players don’t want to play under Coach Jason Garrett any longer. There is also a belief that he is unable to bring a fire out of the players. One thing is for certain, player production has dropped in multiple areas. Stats say that the Dallas Cowboys have a top offense in the league. This may be true yardage wise, but not in scoring. They only average 16 points a game against teams that are above .500 in record.

Coaching Mistakes

This has been one of the biggest weak spots for the team all year. There are coaching troubles all over the place. Head Coach Jason Garrett has lost the players and their trust. He often makes poor decisions, especially when he tells the Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore what type of plays to run. Kellen Moore has been inconsistent all year. The young coordinator is great at calling pass plays, but our running game struggles due to his style. The Co-Defensive Coordinators, Kris Richard and Rod Marinelli, have had their fair share of troubles as well. Dallas’s defense has seemed to become worse than last year now that both coaches own the title (ranked 7th last year vs ranked 13th this year).

Kicking Woes

I know this could go with “Lack Of Execution”, but the kicking is so bad that it has to be in its own category. Cowboys’ kicker Bret Maher has missed 10 FGs (most in the NFL), including 4 misses in the last 3 games. He was able to make long field goals earlier in the season, for instance a Cowboys’ record of 63 yards. Jerry Jones says there is no other option that is better at the position, but many would disagree. One kicker I believe could be a better option would be former Falcons kicker Matt Bryant.

These are just a few of the Cowboys problems. The only reason why they are in the playoff conversation is because the NFC East has not looked great in any area. All of the current teams in the division have a negative record. Things need to be changed if the Cowboys want to be relevant in the coming seasons.
